Assignment Post #3 - Draft 1


FAde In
act one
THE FOX OF the greenland arctic tundra

Scene One – Tundra exterior, day.
FOX trots around the land, meeting everyone’s eyes with complete enjoyment as he is being praised.
Beaver
Howdy, Mr. Fox! Looking good as always!
Hare
Ah! There’s Mr. Fox! Look how marvelous his vanilla coat is!
DOE
And his blue eyes!
FOX
Oh don’t be like that my fellows. You are marvelous as well… [lowers voice] not!
Fox leaves.

FADE TO

Fade IN

ATTENTION, WHERE ART THOU?

Scene Two – Fox’s den exterior, day.
The next day, fox looks around the land, but today no one’s on sight.
FOX
What’s happening today? Where is everyone? [looks to his left and right] Ah! What’s that voice from the north?
Fox leaves to follow the sound.

FADE TO
ACT 2

THE CROWD

Scene Three – Tundra (Chinchilla’s den) exterior, day.

Fox goes out to the north of the tundra. He walks until he saw a crowd of animals [crowd chattering].
FOX
What’s happening, beaver? [looks behind beaver into the crowd]
BEAVER
There’s a new fellow in town, mate! He’s so adorable we can’t help but to stare at him all day long!
Fox rushes into the crowd, seeing that the newcomer really is adorable.
FOX
Hmph!
Fox scurried away in disdain and jealousy.

FADE TO

THE CHALLENGE

Scene Four – Chinchilla’s den exterior, night.

Fox goes to chinchilla’s den.
FOX
[standing impatiently, his tail flails around] Hey, newcomer! Come out, come out, wherever you are!
CHINCHILLA comes out from the little den.
CHINCHILLA
Good morning, Mr. Fox. How may I help you?
FOX
Young fellow, I can see that you have caused quite of a fuss around here. Everyone is talking about only good things about you. I’m very curious about what you can do. Therefore, I’m challenging you into a competition! We’ll jump from the lowest branch of the Great Pine Tree and we’ll see who will succeed to land on our four legs!
Chinchilla looks shocked. Other animals come around them as they heard the noise.
BEAVER, DOE, HARE
Accept it! Accept it! [chant]
CHINCHILLA
Alright then. [sighs]
FOX
Good, I’ll be seeing you tomorrow then.
Fox leaves.


FADE TO

THE DAY

Scene Five – Trees exterior, day.

Fox and chinchilla go to the woods, along with the rest of the residents of the land. Fox is really confident that he will win and opted to go first.
FOX
Ah! What a fine day to win! Everyone, I will go first. Let our new guy bite my dust, eh?
CHINCHILLA
… [looks as if he’s trying to be strong]
BEAVER, DOE, HARE
Do it! Do it! [chant]
Fox jumps down and landed on his four legs, just on top of a trap under the snow.
FOX
Ahh! Help me I’m trapped!
Fox stays stuck inside the deep trap hole. Meanwhile all the other animals left him alone due to disappointment of seeing his “failure”.
BEAVER, DOE, HARE
Boo! Boring! What show is this? [chatters]

FADE TO

CONTEMPLATION

Scene Six – Trap hole interior, night.

Fox contemplates in misery.
FOX
[lies down, his tail curled with sadness] Oh, what have I been doing? I don’t even have real friends.
FADE TO
ACT 3

CONTEMPLATION AND SALVATION

Scene Seven – Trap hole interior, day.

Fox woke up, feeling something ticklish on his nose.
FOX
[woke up surprised] What is that?!
CHINCHILLA
[voice only] Mr. Fox! Grab the rope!
FOX
You saved me! You stayed!
CHINCHILLA
[voice only] Come! Hurry!
Fox and chinchilla work together to pull fox up and out of the trap hole.
FADE TO

TRUE FRIENDS

Scene Eight – Trees exterior, day.

Fox finally made it out. Fox felt really sad and embarrassed being saved by his self-appointed “enemy”.
FOX
[crying] I’m sorry. Thank you for saving me..
CHINCHILLA
[pats fox on his back] There’s nothing to be sorry for, Mr. Fox. It’s not a bad thing for someone to help his friend.
FADE OUT
